Editorial and Review Policy
This policy explains how a MacroCalculator guide is written, checked, reviewed and corrected, so you can judge how far to trust what you read.
Who writes and reviews
James Smith writes the guides. Sally A Zumwalt, MS reviews each one for accuracy before publication. Every guide shows both names and a last-reviewed date under its title. See the reviewer profile and the team page.
How a guide is built
- Each guide uses the same published equations as the calculator: Mifflin-St Jeor for resting energy, Katch-McArdle when body fat is known, and the standard 4, 4 and 9 kcal per gram energy factors.
- Protein is set from body weight, fat from a share of calories, and carbohydrate takes the remaining calories.
- Pages explain one idea each and link to the other guides rather than repeating them.
How the numbers are checked
Every worked example prints each intermediate value. Before publication the examples are run against the calculator, and any code shown is run against the same examples. Where a printed total differs from the sum of its rounded parts by a calorie or two, the page says so.
Sources
Each guide lists its sources at the end. Claims about equations, protein ranges and safe deficits point to the original study or guideline where one exists. A source is listed only when it supports the sentence it sits beside.
Safety limits
The guides are written for healthy adults and give estimates, not prescriptions. The calculator does not build a target below 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 kcal for men. A target below 800 kcal a day belongs under medical supervision. People under 18, who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who are managing a medical condition or an eating disorder should use a clinician’s numbers. See the medical disclaimer.
Advertising and Independence
Advertising is separate from editorial work. Advertisers cannot pay for a review, a ranking, a placement in the calculator or a change to a formula, and ads do not decide what a guide says. The rules are in the advertising disclosure.
Updates and corrections
Guides are re-reviewed when the calculator changes or when a source is superseded. The last-reviewed date under each title shows the most recent review. To report an error, use the contact page. Confirmed errors are fixed in place and the date is updated.
